Husqvarna Automower error messages, decoded from the official manual
Search for Husqvarna Automower error codes and you will find long numbered lists. Husqvarna does not publish one. Its own support material names messages in plain language, gives each a stated cause and a stated action, and files them per model through a picker rather than in a single table. This guide reproduces what Husqvarna documents, message by message, quoting the maker's own text for cause and remedy, and flags which regional portal each article was read from. We have not hardware-tested any of these machines, and nothing here is our own diagnosis.

Messages, not code numbers
The first thing to correct is the search term. Husqvarna's consumer documentation for Automower does not present faults as numbers. Its US help center serves one page per message, titled in the form Message: Cutting system blocked, Message: Wheel motor blocked right/left, Message: Battery temperature outside limits, and so on, and each page opens with a model picker before it will show you anything. The self-service articles on husqvarna.com use the same naming, tagged error message, and reach the same content from the other direction.
Numbers do exist somewhere in Husqvarna's stack, but they are not published as a list. The only numeric identifier we could see anywhere in this set was in a deep link: the Product Assistant button on Husqvarna's Cutting system blocked article carries error-code=24 in its query string. That is a hint that an internal code map exists, not a published table, and we are not going to reconstruct one from it.
The model picker matters for what follows. On every message page we opened, the list includes 410 iQ, 420 iQ, 435 iQ AWD and 440 iQ alongside the NERA, EPOS, V-series and Aspire models, so the message names apply to the iQ generation. The deeper articles behind those messages are a different matter, and several of them do not mention the iQ series at all. That is flagged where it happens, and again at the end.
One more scoping note. Our spec record for the Automower 420 iQ publishes it with EPOS satellite virtual boundaries and onboard radar object detection, with a physical boundary wire also supported, and with a Husqvarna reference station in the box. That means both the wire-based messages and the EPOS reference-station messages below can apply, depending on how the machine was installed, and the camera messages in the vision family do not apply at all.
Docking and charging messages
Charging station blocked has the shortest documented remedy in the set. Husqvarna's US message page gives one solution and nothing else: remove any objects that prevent the product from entering the charging station.
Charging system problem is documented with four checks in order. Make sure that you use the correct power supply unit for the product. The maximum length of the low-voltage cable is 20 metres. Check for and clean any visible debris from the mower and charging station contact plates. Examine the power supply unit and low-voltage cable and their connectors, and replace if necessary.
Empty battery has its own article, and Husqvarna is precise about what the message actually means: it appears when Automower does not have sufficient battery capacity to locate the charging station. It publishes five causes. The guide cable might be incorrectly positioned, faulty or broken, preventing the mower from finding its way home. Search settings may be wrong, reviewed in the app under Menu, Settings, Installation and Find charging station. The mower may be set to Secondary Area mode instead of Main Area mode, and Husqvarna notes that after mowing a secondary area the machine has to be placed manually back in the main area with the correct mode selected. Obstacles or stay-out zones may be blocking the path to the charging station. Or the charging station itself may be badly installed, and it should sit on a flat surface with enough free space around it and its cables properly connected.
The same article documents what to check when the machine will not charge at all, separately from the message. Check the charging station light. Check the docking contact, making sure the mower sits squarely in the station with the charging plates making full contact, and remove leaves, grass clippings or debris from the docking area and from the contacts on both sides. Check the battery temperature, because Husqvarna states the mower will not charge if it is outside the accepted range. And after winter storage, it states that a mower stored without a full charge may be too deeply discharged to begin charging normally, and that the remedy is to bring it indoors, place it on the charging station and leave it for several hours. That last one is the reason our winterization checklist treats storage charge level as the step with the longest tail.
Unable to create docking point belongs to the EPOS wire-free setup rather than to daily running. Husqvarna states the message means the mower cannot determine a reliable position for the docking point, usually caused by limited satellite reception or connectivity, and publishes three remedies. Drive the mower to an open area with clear sky view using the app, wait until the EPOS status check symbol turns green, drive back to the charging station and retry. Adjust the docking point distance: set it to the maximum recommended length if the charging station sits close to a house wall, or shorten it if there are buildings opposite the station. And for mowers that only support Wi-Fi using EPOS via the Husqvarna Cloud, ensure stable Wi-Fi coverage across the whole work area, with a published test of walking the area with a phone on the same network and confirming the Wi-Fi symbol shows at least one bar. The article also publishes the placement requirement behind all of this: leave at least 6 metres (20 feet) of free space in front of the charging station.

- Charging system problem: correct power supply unit, low-voltage cable no longer than 20 metres, clean the contact plates, inspect and replace the supply or cable.
- Empty battery: guide wire, search settings, Secondary Area mode, blocked path or stay-out zone, or charging station installation.
- Unable to create docking point (EPOS): open sky view, adjust docking point distance, and for Wi-Fi-only mowers at least one bar of Wi-Fi across the work area.
- Docking point placement: at least 6 metres (20 feet) of free space in front of the charging station.
Boundary and positioning messages
Reference station communication problem is the most fully documented message in the EPOS family, and Husqvarna states it means the mower has lost its connection to the reference station during operation. Its first block is restart and power: verify the reference station is connected to the power supply, turn the mower off and back on, then unplug the reference station, wait one minute and plug it back in.
Its second block is the installation itself, and it publishes three hard numbers. The reference station needs a clear view of the sky, minimum 135 degrees. It must be installed at a height of at least 2 m or 6.5 ft. The distance to the mower should be less than 100 m or 330 ft, and Husqvarna adds that if there are objects between the mower and the station the minimum distance may be reduced. It then names interference sources: metal objects such as metal fences near the station, another reference station, and nearby radio systems. It documents pairing and reinstallation through the app under the map and Reference station and Reinstall. It states that an LED flashing red on the station indicates a technical error, to be cleared by disconnecting power for one minute, and if it persists, by the dealer.
The last block is the one people miss on big properties. Husqvarna states that on very large or hilly lawns the reference station signal may not cover the complete work area, and that on areas with hills or large buildings the signal may not reach all parts of it. Its three published solutions are to move the station to a location where the signal reaches all work areas, to create a stay-out zone excluding the shadowed part of the installation, or to have a dealer assess the site, adding that in specific situations a second reference station can be installed to extend the signal.
Three further positioning messages exist as named pages on the US help center but resolve into a model picker rather than into text we can quote: Weak GPS signal, Outside work area and Map problem. We are naming them because they are published message names, and saying plainly that we could not read a cause or an action for them.
For wire installations, No loop signal is the documented message for signal communication problems between the mower and the boundary wire, with a separate article on finding and repairing a wire break. Alarm! Outside GeoFence is documented as appearing when the mower is moved outside its designated GeoFence, and Husqvarna's stated preventive instruction is to turn off the GeoFence alarm before intentionally moving the product outside the work area. Its GeoFence article adds two remedies when the alarm triggers too easily: lower the sensitivity or increase the radius, and reset the centre point so it sits at the centre of the work area. It also documents that the alarm is local and does not require Wi-Fi or mobile connectivity, that the mower enters sleep mode or turns off depending on model, and that the PIN code is needed to silence it and wake the machine.
- Reference station sky view: minimum 135 degrees.

- Reference station to mower: less than 100 m (330 ft), reduced if objects sit between them.
- Interference sources named: metal fences and other metal objects, another reference station, nearby radio systems.
- Coverage shortfall on large or hilly lawns: move the station, add a stay-out zone, or have a dealer assess a second station.
- Alarm! Outside GeoFence: disable GeoFence before deliberately moving the mower; PIN required to clear.
Blade, drive and collision messages
Cutting system blocked is the message with the fullest published cause list, and Husqvarna gives four causes with a remedy for each. The mower is stuck on an object such as a tree root or trampoline leg, and the remedy is to remove it from the object and restart, isolating the spot with an island or a stay-out zone if it happens repeatedly in the same place. Grass or objects are wrapped around the blade disc, wheels or under the cutting deck, and the remedy is to check under the cutting deck, around the wheels and between the body and chassis. The grass is too high for the mower to handle, and the remedy is to adjust the cutting height and keep the grass within the published maximum for the model. Or the slope is too steep, with the remedy being to check the published gradient for the model and isolate the slope with an island or stay-out zone if it exceeds it.
The article carries two tables. The maximum grass height table lists the Automower 420, 430X, 440 and 450X at 10 cm or 3.9 in, with the shorter-deck models such as the Aspire R4 and the 105 at 4 cm or 1.6 in. The maximum slope table lists the same 420, 430X, 440 and 450X group at 40 percent in the work area and 15 percent by the boundary, with the 435X AWD models at 70 percent and 50 percent. Neither table lists the iQ series. Our spec record for the Automower 420 iQ publishes 45 percent maximum slope performance inside the installation with the boundary limited to 15 percent, which is a different machine from the wire-guided 420 in Husqvarna's table, so the table's 40 percent line should not be read onto it.
Wheel drive problem, right/left resolves to a single published solution: check the drive wheel and remove grass or other objects. It carries a safety warning that the product must be switched off before it is turned upside down, and before all work on the chassis such as cleaning or replacing the blades, noting the main switch is either a 0/1 or an ON/OFF switch. Wheel motor blocked right/left gives the same check and adds an escalation: contact your local Husqvarna dealer if the problem occurs on several occasions.
Two more messages in this family are published as named pages that resolve into branch questions rather than text. Collision active is one. Slipped is the other, and its first branch is itself informative: Husqvarna asks whether the problem occurred in a slope or on flat ground before it will go further, which is the maker treating traction loss and a mechanical fault as two different diagnoses. Its cutting height article also states that messages like Cutting system blocked and Collision sensor problem may indicate that grass or other debris is caught in the machine, which is the same cause reaching two different messages.
- Cutting system blocked: stuck on an object, debris wrapped around the disc or wheels, grass too high, or slope too steep.
- Maximum grass height, Husqvarna's table: 10 cm (3.9 in) for the 420, 430X, 440 and 450X; 4 cm (1.6 in) for Aspire R4 and 105. The iQ series is not listed.
- Wheel drive problem and Wheel motor blocked: check the drive wheel and remove grass or other objects. Power off before inverting the machine.
- Wheel motor blocked, repeated: Husqvarna routes to the dealer.
- Slipped: Husqvarna's first branch is slope versus flat ground.
Battery, temperature, tilt and vision messages
Battery temperature outside limits is documented with a cause and an instruction to wait rather than to act: the temperature in the battery is too high or too low to start operation, and the product will start to operate when the temperature is in limits. The numbers sit in a separate article, and they are the same table our winterization guide uses. Operation is published as 0 to 50 degrees C (32 to 122 degrees F), storage as 0 to 50 degrees C (32 to 122 degrees F), and charging as 0 to 45 degrees C (32 to 113 degrees F). Husqvarna adds two things that change how the message should be read. The temperature is measured by a sensor located inside the chassis, so the registered value may differ slightly from the ambient temperature, which is why a machine can refuse to start on a day that does not feel out of range. And to keep the mower from getting too hot while charging, the charging station should be placed in an area with protection from the sun.
The same article carries Husqvarna's lawn-care note on cold: it states that it is usually not necessary to mow below approximately 8 degrees C or 40 degrees F because the grass more or less stops growing, and that grass is extra sensitive to wear when the garden is covered with frost. It names Frost Guard and Weather timer as the two features that adjust the schedule automatically.
Tilt sensor problem and Temporary problem share one published remedy: restart the mower, because the error might be due to a temporary electronic or firmware issue, so turn the mower off and then on again.
The camera family applies only to Automower models with AI vision technology, which the Automower 420 iQ is not, since our spec record publishes it with onboard radar based object detection. For the models it does cover, Husqvarna documents four messages. Camera lens blocked and No object detection available both point at a dirty or blocked camera glass, with the published fix being to check the glass for leaves, slugs or other debris, rinse the camera with running water and dry it carefully with a soft cloth. Camera lens wet is documented as heavy rain limiting the camera's ability to detect objects, with no action needed because the mower will resume when visibility improves. Vision system problem is what remains after cleaning and drying, pointing at the vision module or firmware, with the published steps being to restart the mower and then contact the dealer. The article adds a separate first-run cause worth knowing: a mower that leaves the charging station and then moves randomly or in circles before stopping may still have the yellow or transparent protective sticker attached to the camera glass from shipping.

Clearing an error, and what a reset does not do
Husqvarna publishes an order of operations and a limit. Restart turns the machine off and on again with no settings deleted, and it says to try this first. A factory reset restores user settings such as schedules and map objects, while keeping security level, PIN code, loop signal, messages, date and time, language and country. And it states the limit in bold terms: a total reset, like on a smartphone, is not possible on Automower. If neither works it routes to a dealer.
Some errors cannot be cleared remotely at all, and Husqvarna says so explicitly, giving the reason as safety and the examples as someone pressing the STOP button, or the mower tilting or colliding with an obstacle. Its published instruction before restarting is to make sure the cause of the error is removed, for example by removing obstacles or placing the mower upright. On older models with a keypad, and it names the Automower 420 as its example, the sequence is to press STOP to access the display, enter the PIN using the number buttons and press OK, then press START and close the hatch. On NERA the sequence runs through the jog wheel and the start symbol. Where the fault can be cleared remotely, a Reset Error control appears in the Automower Connect app.
One smaller pointer is documented rather than two we might wish for. Husqvarna's restart-and-reset article does not document display-lock behaviour or a message-log menu path; what it does publish is a direct link to a separate support article for a display that is blank, frozen or unresponsive. Where the record has gaps
Four things are worth flagging so this reads as no more complete than it is. First, the sourcing is regional and it is not tidy. Husqvarna's US help center at us-support.husqvarna.com serves the per-message pages and several of the deeper articles, but its own links inside those articles point to husqvarna.com/uk paths, and the fullest version of the Cutting system blocked article with both tables was read on the Irish self-service site. Husqvarna itself notes that services and details vary by country. We cite what each portal publishes and flag the region rather than presenting it as US documentation.
Second, several published message names produce no readable cause or action. Weak GPS signal, Outside work area, Map problem, Collision active and Cutting system blocked all resolve on the US help center into an interactive model picker listing more than fifty variants, and the underlying text only appears after a selection the scraper cannot make. We have named those messages and taken their content, where we could, from the corresponding self-service article instead. Where no article exists, we have said so rather than guessed at the remedy.
Third, the iQ generation is under-represented in exactly the articles that carry numbers. The maximum grass height table and the maximum slope table in the Cutting system blocked article list the 420, 430X, 440 and 450X but not the 410 iQ, 420 iQ, 435 iQ AWD or 440 iQ. The GeoFence article's supported-model list names Automower 420 and 440 rather than their iQ counterparts. Husqvarna's systematic mowing article, which contains its published coverage rules, does not list the iQ series either. The message names apply to iQ machines because the model picker says so; the tables behind them were written for other product lines, and we are not going to transfer their figures.
Fourth, nobody publishes the thing owners actually want, which is a single table mapping every message to a cause, an action and a code. There is no published Automower fault-code list, no severity ranking, no stated frequency for any fault, and no figure for how often any of these remedies works. Every article in this set ends at the Product Assistant or a Husqvarna dealer, which is where this guide stops too.
