Is a Robot Pool Cleaner Worth It vs Manual Vacuuming?
The comparison people actually want is time against money: does a robot pool cleaner buy back enough of your Saturday to justify its price. Half of that question has published numbers behind it and half of it does not, and this page keeps the two apart. Machine time comes off the datasheets. Your time comes off your own practice, and is labelled as such throughout. No figure here is a promise of savings.

The two quantities this question mixes up
Manual vacuuming and a robot cycle are not the same unit of measurement, and subtracting one from the other produces a number that means nothing. Manual vacuuming is attended time: you are holding a pole. A robot cycle is unattended machine time: the only minutes you spend are dropping it in and lifting it out. An hour of one is not an hour of the other, and any comparison that treats them as interchangeable is selling something.
There is a second difference underneath that one. A manual vacuum head draws its suction from the pool's own circulation pump, so vacuuming is pump time by construction. A cordless robot carries its own pump, its own filter and its own battery, so its cleaning does not require the circulation system to be running. That is a genuine structural difference between the two methods, and it is the one real mechanism behind the energy comparison further down.
Time per clean: your number, labelled as yours
No manufacturer publishes how long it takes you to vacuum your pool, and neither do we. That figure depends on the pool's size and shape, how much debris it collects, and how thorough you are, and the only honest source for it is your own stopwatch. Time yourself once before you price anything.
What makers do publish is the machine side, and even that comes on inconsistent bases. Polaris publishes a programmed cycle for the EPIC 8642 iQ: 2 hours 30 minutes for the floor, wall and waterline mode and 1 hour 30 minutes for floor only, adjustable in the iAquaLink app. Aiper publishes up to 180 minutes of battery life for the Scuba S1 and the Scuba S1 Pro, and up to 150 minutes for the Seagull Pro, noting that its figures come from a controlled test environment or from Aiper Laboratories. Wybot publishes an up to 180 minute working cycle for the C2 Vision, quoted to Eco Mode, and up to 150 minutes for the S2 Solar under a laboratory environment, reference only disclaimer.
Beatbot is the outlier and it matters for this comparison. It publishes no whole pool runtime for any model we track, only mode specific maxima: up to 4 hours of continuous floor cleaning for the AquaSense 2, up to 11 hours of continuous surface cleaning for the AquaSense 2 Pro, and separate per mode figures for the AquaSense 2 Ultra. A surface cleaning hour and a floor cleaning hour are not the same load, so those numbers cannot be added to a whole pool estimate. The practical read is that a programmed cycle answers how long the machine will run, and a battery runtime answers how long it can run. Neither answers how long your pool takes, because none of these makers publishes a coverage rate per minute.
The energy arithmetic, from what is actually published
Only a ceiling can be computed here, and only where a maker publishes a power figure. Polaris is the cleanest case because it is corded: the EPIC 8642 iQ owner's manual publishes a control box supply of 100 to 125 VAC 60 Hz, 30 V DC to the cleaner, and a 150 W maximum installed load. Against the published 2 hour 30 minute cycle, that caps a full floor, wall and waterline run at about 0.375 kWh, and the 1 hour 30 minute floor only cycle at about 0.225 kWh. Both are ceilings drawn from a maximum rating, not measured draw.
On the cordless side the equivalent ceiling comes off the charger. Wybot publishes a 65 W charger and a 3 hour charge time for the C2 Vision, which caps one full charge at about 0.195 kWh. It publishes a 29.4 V, 3 A, 90 W output for the S2 Solar charger on its US product page against a 3 hour charge, capping one charge at about 0.27 kWh; the S2 Solar user manual lists 29.4 V at 2.2 A for the same charger, a conflict we record rather than resolve, and the 90 W figure appears in both. Wybot separately claims the solar dock enables continuous operation, which is a different basis again and not something we convert.
Two figures deliberately do not get converted. Aiper publishes up to 196 W for the Seagull Pro quad motor system on its store page and 200 W in marketing copy elsewhere, but motor output is not wall draw and the two are not interchangeable. Beatbot publishes battery capacity in mAh for the AquaSense line without a matching pack voltage, so those cannot be turned into watt hours at all.
The comparison against manual vacuuming, then, is this and only this: a robot adds its own charge, capped by the figures above, and removes the pump time that a manual vacuum would have required, at whatever rate your own pump's nameplate says. We do not publish pump figures, they are not on any robot datasheet, and the sign of the total depends entirely on a number that is printed on the side of your equipment pad rather than on anything a robot maker publishes. Anyone claiming a net saving without your pump's wattage is guessing.
Prices, where a maker publishes one
Every price below is a manufacturer list price observed on the maker's own US page on the date shown, and several carried lower sale prices the same day. Prices move; these are timestamped observations, not quotes.
Two records carry no price at all, which is itself a finding. Polaris publishes no MSRP for the EPIC 8642 iQ: the product page routes buyers to a dealer locator, so the corded option in our set cannot be priced from the manufacturer at all. The Aiper Scuba SE no longer appears on the official Aiper US store, so it has no current US list price either.

What the sticker price leaves out
Three published details change the total on the robot side. Beatbot states that the water clarification mode on the AquaSense 2 Pro requires the AquaRefine clarifier kit, sold separately at about $59.99, so a five mode machine is not a five mode machine out of the box. Aiper states the wireless charging dock for the Scuba S1 Pro is sold separately. And filters are consumables on every unit here; our records carry micron ratings and basket volumes but no maker in the set publishes a filter replacement interval, so no honest annual filter cost can be computed.
Warranty terms differ enough to matter over a five year horizon. Beatbot publishes 3 years with full machine replacement, stating covered failures are resolved by replacement with a new or refurbished unit rather than repaired. Aiper publishes 2 years on the Scuba S1, S1 Pro and Seagull Pro, and 12 months on the Scuba SE. Wybot publishes 2 years, and Polaris publishes 2 years per its USA and Canada limited warranty document. A manual vacuum head has no battery to degrade and effectively no warranty question, which is a real point in its favour that no spec table records.
When manual vacuuming is the right answer
There are five cases where the published specs, not taste, say the robot is the wrong purchase. The first is a pool outside the published rating. Aiper publishes a length rating alongside its area rating, 50 ft for the Scuba S1 and Seagull Pro and 66 ft for the Scuba S1 Pro, while Beatbot and Wybot publish no length figure for any model we track, so a long lap pool cannot be checked against their sheets at all. If the datasheet cannot answer the question your pool asks, a pole and a vacuum head can.
The second is a surface the robot does not claim. The Aiper Scuba SE is explicitly floor only, and even the three surface units publish coverage claims whose limits are usually unpublished; Aiper's own pages give three different wall angle figures for the Scuba S1 Pro, so we chart none of them. If your problem is a waterline band or a set of steps, check the published mode list first, as robot pool cleaner cleaning modes sets out.
The third is a debris load that clogs faster than the basket holds. A robot's advantage is that it runs unattended, and that advantage evaporates in leaf season if the basket needs emptying twice a cycle. Fourth is a phase out or delisted model, which two of the units above currently carry, because a discontinued unit means a shrinking spare parts and battery replacement path over exactly the years the arithmetic depends on.
Fifth, and most often the real answer: if your pool is small, the debris load is light, and you already run the pump daily, manual vacuuming costs a few minutes a week and no capital at all. The robot buys back unattended time, not water quality.
