Robot mower runtime and charge time: what the published figures mean

Runtime looks like the simplest number on a robot mower spec sheet and behaves like one of the trickiest. Makers publish it under at least four different names, three of the nine active mowers we track do not publish it in minutes at all, and the area a machine covers on one charge is a separate spec that does not follow from the runtime. We have not hardware-tested any of these machines. Every figure below is quoted from the maker's own datasheet with the wording that datasheet uses.

Runtime is published under several different names

Two makers call it full charge mowing time. Segway publishes 120 minutes as the Full Charge Mowing Time for the Navimow i110N and 200 minutes as the Full Charge Mowing Time for the Navimow X350, the latter from the X3 spec table, with the product page footnotes describing the charge and runtime figures as based on internal laboratory testing.

Husqvarna calls it something narrower. The Automower 420 iQ publishes 84 minutes as a typical mow time on one charge, with the word typical doing real work: it is not a maximum, and Husqvarna pairs it with a published maximum active time of 24 hours for the machine's duty cycle. Ecovacs hedges differently again, publishing about 65 minutes of continuous mowing for the GOAT O1000 RTK with the test conditions not specified. Mammotion publishes 125 minutes as mowing time per charge for the YUKA mini 2 1000H, and marketing copy elsewhere on the same page cites 2.5 hours, so the maker's own page carries two figures that do not agree.

Variant is the last thing to check before you quote a number. Mammotion's 175 minute runtime for the LUBA 3 AWD 3000 is the 3000 model figure from its official compare table; the same table lists 135 minutes for the 1500 and 215 minutes for the 5000. A runtime quoted for a product family rather than a variant is not a spec you can plan a lawn against.

The published runtime and charge pairs

Six of the nine active mowers publish both a runtime and a charge time in minutes. They range from 65 to 200 minutes of runtime and 54 to 135 minutes of charging, and the pairing matters as much as either number, because a machine that recharges fast can return to the lawn sooner within the same window.

Two pairs sit at opposite ends of that logic. The Segway Navimow X350 publishes the longest runtime in the set, 200 minutes, against an 80 minute charging time. The Husqvarna Automower 420 iQ publishes a much shorter 84 minutes typical mow time on one charge, but pairs it with the shortest charging time in the set, 54 minutes typical, and a published maximum active time of 24 hours. The shortest published runtime belongs to the Ecovacs GOAT O1000 RTK at about 65 minutes continuous mowing, against a charge of about 100 minutes. These sheets answer the same coverage question in different ways, and no one of them is the more generous across the board.

Coverage per charge is a separate spec, not runtime multiplied by a rate

The number most buyers actually want is how much lawn gets cut before the machine goes home to charge, and that is not the runtime. Makers publish coverage separately, usually as an area per charge or a rate per hour, and the rate itself moves with the cutting mode. Ecovacs publishes mowing efficiency for the GOAT O1000 RTK as about 1,507 sq ft per hour in Delicate mode and about 1,938 sq ft per hour in Efficient mode, both stated as Ecovacs lab figures, so the same 65 minute runtime buys different amounts of lawn depending on which mode is running.

Segway publishes a range rather than a point for the Navimow i110N: a mowing capacity of 80 to 120 square meters (0.02 to 0.03 acre) per hour alongside its 120 minute runtime. Mammotion publishes three related figures for the LUBA 3 AWD 3000 side by side, a 175 minute runtime, a mowing rate of 5,400 sq ft per hour, and 0.35 acre per charge, and publishes 125 minutes and 2,700 sq ft per charge together for the YUKA mini 2 1000H with a 6.1 Ah battery. Where a maker gives you both, use the coverage figure; it already accounts for whatever the machine actually does with its time.

Segway's own footnote for the Navimow X350 shows why not to do the arithmetic yourself. Alongside the 200 minute runtime, Segway states that 30 minutes of charging provides up to 90 minutes of operating time covering up to 5,380 sq ft, based on internal laboratory testing. That is a partial-charge claim on a lab basis, tied to a specific area. It is not a rate you can extend to a full charge, and we do not extend it.

Charge time, and why the duty cycle matters more than one charge

A robot mower is not a push mower with a fuel tank; it works in cycles across a day or a week, so the recharge is part of the throughput rather than an interruption to it. Charge times among the models we publish pages for run from 54 minutes to about 160. The shortest published figure is the Husqvarna Automower 420 iQ at 54 minutes typical charging time, followed by the Segway Navimow X350 at 80 minutes, the Ecovacs GOAT O1000 RTK at about 100, the Navimow i110N and Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000 at 120 each, and the YUKA mini 2 1000H at 135.

The Worx figure needs its own note. Worx publishes a charge time of approximately 160 minutes for the Landroid Vision WR208 in the owner's manual, tied to the included 20V 4.0 Ah battery and 1.5 A charger, and describes it as an approximate manufacturer figure rather than a tested value. It is the longest published charge time in the set, and it is the only charge figure here published without a matching runtime.

Only one maker publishes the outer bound of the cycle. Husqvarna states a maximum active time of 24 hours for the 420 iQ alongside its 84 minute typical mow time, which is the closest thing in our data to a duty-cycle spec. Nobody else publishes one, so for the other eight active models the datasheets support a claim about a single charge and nothing beyond it.

Where runtime is not published

Three of the nine active models publish no runtime in minutes, and each declines for a different reason. Dreame publishes daily coverage by power mode for the A3 AWD Pro 3500 instead: 0.62 acre per day in Standard, 0.87 acre per day in Efficient, and 1.24 acre per day in Rush. It also publishes a charging current of 5 A but no charge time, so both endurance fields on our page are recorded as not published. For a large-lawn buyer those per-day mode figures are arguably more useful than minutes would be, but they cannot be lined up against a runtime in minutes from another brand.

Sunseeker publishes battery capacity only for the X7, a 10 Ah battery with a 5 A charger, and no runtime or charge time in minutes. Its store FAQ separately states a cutting efficiency of approximately 0.11 acre per hour, which is a rate rather than an endurance figure. Worx publishes a charge time for the Landroid Vision WR208 but states no battery runtime per charge for the model.

We do not estimate any of these from battery capacity, motor draw, or a sibling model. A battery capacity is not a runtime, an acre-per-day rating is not a minutes figure, and a charge time tells you nothing about how long the machine runs. Not published is the finding, and it is a real limit on what can be compared.

Planning against the figures you actually have

Work backwards from your lawn rather than forwards from a runtime. If a maker publishes an area per charge, that is the figure to size against: the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 3000 at 0.35 acre per charge on a 0.75 acre max lawn size, or the Mammotion YUKA mini 2 1000H at 2,700 sq ft per charge on a 0.25 acre max lawn size, both of which tell you plainly that the machine is expected to make more than one trip. If a maker publishes only a rate, as Ecovacs and Segway do, read the rate as mode-dependent and the runtime as the window it runs inside.

If a maker publishes nothing in minutes, plan against whatever it does give and accept the comparison gap. The Dreame A3 AWD Pro 3500 can be planned against its per-day mode ratings; the Sunseeker X7 leaves you with a battery capacity and a rate from an FAQ; the Worx Landroid Vision WR208 leaves endurance unanswered. That absence is a fair thing to weigh against a machine, as long as it is weighed as an absence and not as a bad number.
